Michael King Wall Art

Michael King is an art instructor and Canadian painter based in British Columbia. The artist works primarily as an oil painter and is known for modern still lifes, soft plein air landscapes, and portraiture. He enjoys how shadow, color temperature and light form the fundamental elements of a scene with his goal of blending Impressionistic with representation aesthetics. The combination of intuition and technique creates pieces of artwork that are poised between abstraction and observational realism. He got his formal education in Industrial Design from Carleton University in Ottawa, and his career in product design influences his approach to fine art. The artist places strong emphasis on mastering the technical aspects of painting, he then allows his educated subconscious to reign during the painting process. His work appears in private and public collections throughout the United States and Canada, and he has won awards in a variety of competitions and exhibitions.

King accepts private commissions for landscapes, still lifes, and portraiture. He is an enthusiastic instructor, and so his workshops teach design and painting in an accessible and straightforward manner. His philosophy founded in scientific fundamentals of observation, anatomy and perception, along with time proven principles of art. King is an associate member of the Oil painters of America and the founder of PleinAirBC.com. He is the past vice president and past president of the Fraser Valley. This is a chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists. King is a community member of Port Coquitlam, where he works with community organizations and civic agencies on city planning and arts related projects.
