Sue Thompson Wall Art

Sue Thompson is a Southern California native who became an artist after more than 25 years in the food and beverage industry. Through this, she fulfilled her lifelong desire to create art. In the fall of 1997 she enrolled in a local painting class sponsored by the recreation department of the city. Sue had never painted before but she managed to produce high quality and attractive art. Drawing on her experiences as a catering specialist, bartender and a food server, she decided to paint what she knew best: restaurant life behind and in front of the scenes. She works from photographs, and her self-taught style has developed into a unique sense of light and color. Her extensive background in the service world has inspired her subject matter of local eateries and bars.

Until April 2003, Sue worked as a full-time food server. She then left her restaurant career to dedicate herself exclusively to live her life as a professional artist. She currently resides in Laguna Beach, California, and is an exhibitor in the Sawdust Art Festival which takes place in Laguna Beach annually. Her work has been exhibited in various shows including the Robert Mondavi Food and Wine Center of Southern California. Her work is collected throughout the southland. Permanent collections of her work can be viewed New York at Houston’s Restaurants in New York City, and Corona Del Mar, California. Sue says that when she gave herself permission to become an artist, she realized her sense of self. It makes her feel very connected to who she is. That alone, has been the most magnificent of gifts to her.
