Jody Whitsell Wall Art

Jody Whitsell was raised up in Ramsey, New Jersey. She began her artistic career in 1999, 19 years after she graduated with a BFA from Wayne’s William Paterson College. Being much diversified in her studies, she decided to portray still lifes and realistic rural scenes concentrating on painting in gouache watercolors. Her interests suddenly took a turn when she decided to do an unconventional and fun portrait of her dog called Mac. She wanted to capture the personality of her pet in a loose fashion in working on canvas with acrylic paints that are vivid. Jody had so much fun that she hasn’t turned back in almost two years.

Believing that fun in necessary in life and being a lover of both art and animals, she has incorporated it all in her dog portraits. Her paintings are full of character, personality and life; just like her loveable furry pets. Working in acrylics, she has become known for her unconventional yet realistic dog portraits. With a bright color palette, Jody brilliantly captures the unique expressions of her subjects. She was recognized by the American Kennel Club by winning their national poster contest, and having painted dog portraits for more than 10 years, she has been published with a dog calendar as well as a cat and dog poster. Her dog portraits can be found in veterinary centers, in homes and in commercial establishments across the globe. They can also be found in both private and public institutions.
